BT internet gaffe causes fury

Hundreds of residents have been left without vital services in the run up to Christmas after a BT gaffe left homes in the Thame area without internet and phone lines for weeks on end.

While carrying out work in the area at the end of last month, BT engineers cut underground cabling, a slip which impacted on nearly 500 homes.

One resident said the ‘appalling’ error had left them cut off since November 27 and had impacted on their Christmas planning, leaving them unable to shop online or make arrangements. BT has said it hopes to resolve all faults before the weekend.

The resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “That they have done this just before Christmas for this amount of time is a disgrace.

“My niece had her 16th birthday last week and I have not been able to call her. They can’t give me that back.

“They have disrupted my whole life in ways they can’t imagine.”

BT said as soon as it realised what had happened it worked to repair the damaged cabling to restore services.

A BT spokesman said: “We now only have a handful of outstanding faults and are on site carrying out checks and final repairs. We would of course wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst we have been working to repair this damage.”
