Bah, Humbug! No joy for boy until pet found

Seven-year-old William Ennels doesn’t want much for Christmas – the only thing he is longing for is to find his beloved missing cat, seasonally named Humbug.
William has written to Santa begging him to look out for Humbug, who has been absent for three months, when he is delivering presents on Christmas Eve – and the family is offering a £200 reward.
His mother Rebecca, who lives with husband Christian and sons William and Thomas in Brook Street, Aston Clinton, said her children will be devastated if Humbug doesn’t return by December 25.
“The boys are convinced he’ll come home in time for Christmas. They just want him back. They love him.”
William’s family adopted cats Humbug and Zebra from the RSPCA after they had been abandoned. The cats settled into their loving new home, but disaster struck again when Humbug vanished.
Left all alone by Humbug’s disappearance, Zebra misses him as much as the boys do.
Rebecca said: “When Humbug first went missing, Zebra stopped eating and going out. He just wandered round the house sniffing for his lost friend.”
Humbug is a lovable scamp who has been rescued from the pond, a roof and and the apple tree in the garden.
He is known at the village pub The Oak for waiting until closing time to polish off the leftovers in the garden.
For three months the family have searched relentlessly every weekend and handed out more than 1,000 flyers.
Although Humbug has not turned up, the search has helped rehome another kitten. The family were called to a suspected sighting of Humbug, but found a different kitten after four hours searching in brambles.
A few weeks later on Halloween, a second sighting turned out to be the same kitten, who had grown much skinnier and was evidently a stray. William’s grandparents consequently took the kitten in and called him Pumpkin.
