Aylesbury Blockbuster still in operation BUT future is bleak

Blockbuster in Parton Road, Aylesbury

Aylesbury’s Blockbuster branch is continuing to operate but is still facing an uncertain future.

Since the DVD rental company announced it was going into administration earlier this year only 204 of the 528 stores remain in operation including the Aylesbury, Thame and Princes Risborough branches.

The Aylesbury branch, in Parton Road, employs around seven people and the Thame branch, in Upper High Street, employs six.

A spokesman for Blockbusters said the future for those not imminently closing is still unclear with administrator Deloitte still trying to find a buyer for the remainder of the business.

It is widely believed the firm is suffering due to failing to compete with internet rivals and online gaming.

Blockbuster is one of many recent High Street casualties including Jessops, Comet, HMV, JJB Sports and Clintons Cards who have all entered administration.
