Aylesbury College has been showcased by Ofsted in a special report as a shining example of a college that is performing well.

The college was one of three mentioned in the watchdog’s South East regional report for 2012/13 that had successfully achieved a ‘good’ rating following an inspection.

College principal Karen Mitchell said they were ‘absolutely delighted’ to be picked out by Ofsted for praise. The Oxford Road establishment was graded ‘good’ in May.

In the annual report, Ofsted said: “Improvements in governance and leadership, together with the implementation of a wide range of quality improvement activities and significantly improved accommodation and resources, have seen a rise in standards and much improved teaching, learning and assessment.”

Mrs Mitchell said: “It’s a real testament to the staff and students and all their hard work.”

The principal said since the college was rated ‘good’ there has been an increased interest from potential students, as well as boosting staff morale.

She said: “We have got more and more students coming through the door. For the teaching staff it’s great to have that recognition that we are doing a good job. I think we are tipping into the ‘outstanding’ now which is really good.”
