Police have launched a manhunt following a shooting in Hilton Avenue.

A 43-year-old man, who is not from the local area was shot at around 7.15pm on Sunday night.

He was taken to hospital for treatment, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

It is believed that the victim was known to his attacker, who is now being hunted by police.

Suited forensic police workers were on site yesterday morning but left the scene and removed the cordons by mid-afternoon.

One neighbour said: “Someone got hurt, I think.”

Plain clothed officers are also conducting house to house enquiries.

Investigating officer detective inspector Mark Baxter said: “We are at an early stage in the investigation, however I wish to reassure the local community that this is not thought to be a random attack and that the victim was known the offender.

“If anyone witnessed this incident we would ask them to contact us on 101 as a matter of urgency.”

Anyone with information should contact Det Insp Baxter on 101.
