The ceiling of the EE phone shop in Friars Square is currently being propped up and the shop closed after it gave way this afternoon.
A shopper said the ceiling had ‘caved in but was being propped up to stop it from completely collapsing’ at the store near the shopping centre’s main entrance.
The eyewitness said: “They are lucky the ceiling did not fall in completely because someone could have been seriously hurt.
“It looks like they have got big metal things in there now keeping the ceiling up.
“It’s scary stuff because I was just about to go in there to ask a question about my phone.”
A member of Friars Square staff confirmed the ceiling had buckled and was being held up while workmen try to make the scene safe.
An EE spokesman said: “We can confirm there was an incident at our store.
“Thankfully no customers or staff were harmed.”
