A mum has launched a petition to save her daughter’s community centre from being closed.

Elmhurst Community Centre is used by groups from church organisations, charities and sports clubs but Aylesbury Vale District Council plans to shut it down.

So a petition, which will run until the autumn, has been setup and has already been signed by more than 100 people.

Penny Cox, 33, whose 11-year-old daughter Chloe has been going to table tennis club at the centre for three years, set up the petition.

She said: “It keeps Chloe socially active and she really enjoys it.

“She took part in a tournament recently and came third. She did really well.

“The danger is that she might have to stop playing if they don’t find anywhere else. We really don’t want that so I thought ‘what could I do to help?’

“Chloe wanted to sign the petition herself.”

Mrs Cox hopes her seven-year-old son Kristian and three-year-old daughter Kirsty can also play table tennis when tall enough.

But she fears if the centre is shut, an alternative venue for the club may not be secured.

She said: “Obviously finding somewhere else would be fantastic.

“But they have already been let down by Berryfields who found someone else who would hire out more of the space.”
