A retro tour of The Bay City Rollers, The Osmonds, David Essex and Showaddywaddy is the last place you would expect to find a 25-year-old heavy metal fan.

But for sound engineer Clay Robinson from North Marston, the star-studded tour is the perfect place to brush up his skills, while enjoying spending time with some of his best friends.

Clay, who works for Wingrave-based entertainments company Evolution and went to Waddesdon C of E School, has been given time off work to go on the Once In A Lifetime tour, which kicked off in Manchester last week.

He said: “We all get along so well and I would consider the band some of my best mates because we go through thick and thin together, we have become like a big family.

“I’m a complete metal-head normally and my favourite band is Black Sabbath. At the start I actually had to ask my mum who the Bay City Rollers were!

“To be able to work on this kind of big production is really amazing - but to work with Black Sabbath would be a dream come true.”

He added: “When I come back from tour with these guys, I have to switch back into corporate mode immediately. The language on tour is vastly different from that when I’m working with a corporate client and I could get in trouble with the boss!”

This week Clay and the gang will visit Newcastle, Liverpool and London as the tour is in its final week.

And the skills that the young engineer gains from life on the road can be put to good use in his role at his day job..

Clay has been a stage technician for the Bay City Rollers for nine years, starting work for the band when he was just 16-years-old. For each of the performances he prepares their stage set, all the instruments and fixes any instrumental issues.
