The Aylesbury Vale Academy and Berryfields Church of England Primary School have been officially opened, nearly a year after first welcoming pupils.
Aylesbury MP David Lidington and Bishop of Buckingham Rt Rev’d Dr Alan Wilson joined the ceremony at the school, which opened its doors in September.
But the new campus now boosts the school’s capacity to 1,500 and the on-site primary school allows pupils to make a smooth transition to secondary school.
Guests were treated to speeches from Year 7 pupils, a performance of Singing In The Rain by the Sixth Form and a blessing from the bishop.School principal Fiona Froment introduced Mr Lidington ahead of his speech and the event was concluded with a vote of thanks from the school’s head boy David Sheppard and head girl Stacey Scales.
Mrs Froment said: “The academy buildings have been some years in the planning but have really been worth waiting for.
“We are thrilled with the result which provides a top class learning environment for our students right across the curriculum.”
The academy was formerly Quarrendon Upper School which was based in Weedon Road from 1958 until the Berryfields move last year.
