An independent insurance company in Thame has won a national award for offering business advice.

Pearson Insurance Services, based in Swan Walk, will have its ethos published in the Business Leaders Yearbook after thousands of companies were asked to submit best practice advice and guidance.

Its short resume included offering ‘out-of-hours advice’ and ‘treating clients the same way we would want our grandmothers to be treated’.

Owner Sandra Tomes, who lives in Naseby Close, said: “We’re proud of the award and I think it’s quite nice for Thame.

“We have won awards before, like for our customer service in 2009, but this one is national.

“Thame is all about little independent businesses and it’s nice to be recognised.”

Mrs Tomes started the business in 1996 in Stroud, Gloucestershire, before moving to Thame in 2010 when she married husband Caleb.

She said: “Scoot wanted to know about the ethos and how we keep our customers.

“It was about trying to profile small businesses.”

Scoot, an online business directory, is hosting an awards ceremony for the successful companies at Millbank Tower in London on April 28.
