A couple who met at French classes as teenagers are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.
Bob and Cynthia Soundy of Edgecombe Road, Bedgrove, first met at the evening classes in Hayes where they went to school.
Bob, 82, was evacuated to America during the Second World War and when he returned needing some further practice to catch up, he met Cynthia, 83.
Bob, who was born in New Zealand, said: “I was well behind the others and so had to do some extra classes. Cynthia happened to be there.
“We then met at a party years later and I remembered her. It was like that famous line when you’re dancing with someone and you ask: ‘Haven’t I seen you before somewhere?’ – and I had.”
The couple, who have two sons Matthew and Paul and two daughters Cheryl and Julia, are celebrating their milestone in Weston Turville on Saturday night.
Their children, who all live in Aylesbury, will join the party at the Holiday Inn with Bob and Cynthia’s three grandchildren Georgina, Christopher and Richard.
Bob said they enjoyed a meal out on Thursday – the day of the anniversary – and joked their longevity could be put down to ‘patience’.
They are both looking forward to seeing 30 friends and family members on Saturday.
