AYLESBURY’S Christmas lights will be turned on at 6.50pm on Thursday, signalling the start of late night shopping in the town.

Actor Jonathan Wilkes will flick the switch after a countdown from a stage built at the bottom of Market Square.

Fireworks will be released as the star of this year’s panto at the Waterside Theatre turns on the festive lights.

On stage entertainment will be provided by radio station Mix 96.

Performing will be cover group The Choice Band, Leighton Buzzard singer-songwriter Gemma Aguilar, who was the opening act for Buckinghamshire Armed Forces Day and members of Aylesbury Glee Club.

Shops in the town will stay open until 8pm and there is free parking in AVDC-run car parks.

There will also be a small funfair.

Entertainments start at 5.30pm and last until 7.30pm.
