A new Indian restaurant in the middle of an Aylesbury housing estate has opened today.
Flame’s aims to bring a mixture of traditional recipes and fast food, as well as offering a children’s menu.
The Penn Road restaurant next door to newsagent Mace will serve 24 covers for now, but the owners are hoping to be given permission to run a takeaway service as well.
Before being converted into a restaurant the site was used as a post office.
Owner Khalid Hussain said he had been nervous all week before the opening.
Mr Hussain, who has 20 years’ experience in the industry, said: “There was nothing like this in Southcourt before.
“This is quite a big step from what it used to be.
“I have always wanted to do something like this, to take on a challenge myself.
“I love cooking and I wanted to provide a decent quality meal to deliver and serve in a restaurant.
“Our aim is to keep the quality high as well as the quantity. If we do that people will keep coming.”
The opening was attended by a number of councillors, including former mayor Ranjula Takodra and Michael Beall.
Mr Beall said: “I think it will be a good thing for the area.
“Every area needs something like this where people can come to meet.
“It’s good for the community.”
