An Aylesbury man with a rare muscle-wasting condition has successfully walked a mile, raising more than £1,300 for charity.

Martin Hywood was joined by family, friends and supporters for the event in Aylesbury on Sunday, which took him just over 45 minutes to complete.

The 39 year old has limb girdle muscular dystrophy, which causes weakness in the hips, thigh and shoulder muscles, making walking extremely difficult.

He says the support of his family helped him get through the walk.

Mr Hywood said: “It was horrible, I physically pushed myself to the absolute limit.

“I think the most impressive thing for me was our two-year-old daughter Skye walked the whole way too.

“That along with my wife, Michelle, and best friend, Dean, beside me inspired me to push on and not give up on the challenge.”

The walk was part of a national event, ‘Move A Mile For Muscles’, raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
