The damage was discovered on Tuesday evening.

Edinburgh Playing Fields has benefitted from a number of improvements in recent years including a new play area, fitness equipment, and ball court.

Councillor David Thompson, cabinet member for leisure at Aylesbury Vale District Council, said: “I find it difficult to understand what this mindless vandalism achieves.

“It must have taken considerable effort and time to cause this damage.

“This is blatant criminal damage and this council will do whatever it can to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“I would like to reiterate that these acts of vandalism on our parks cost the taxpayers of Aylesbury Vale thousands of pounds each year.”

Anyone with information about the attack should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or the council’s community spaces team on 01296 585235.
