Staff who ‘go the extra mile’ at Bucks Healthcare NHS Trust have been recognised for their work.
Debbie Austin, a discharge co-ordinator at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, was nominated by colleagues for being a ‘fantastic patient advocate’.
Ms Austin phoned work on her 50th birthday when she was on annual leave because she wanted to ensure a terminally ill patient’s discharge went smoothly.
She said: “I wanted to be sure that this patient’s discharge went as planned, as this had been a complex case.
“I know how important it is for patients to get home as soon as possible but we need to ensure they have the right support available to them when they get home.”
All the winners in the scheme receive a £25 gift voucher.
Other winners were Linda Tucker, a medical secretary in the community paediatric department at Wycombe Hospital, Esme Martin, an administrator in the cardiac outpatients department, and Laura Nicholaou, a staff nurse in the gastroenterology department.
Presenting the awards, trust chairman Fred Hucker said: “I am delighted to be presenting these awards to members of our staff who have gone above and beyond to help our patients. Thank you for all your hard work.”
Every month patients and visitors can nominate a member of staff for going the extra mile.
To make a nomination, either complete an online application or pick up a form from hospital reception.
