A PAIR of horses had to be put down after being hit by a car in Haddenham last week.

The tragic incident occurred when the animals escaped from their field on the outskirts of the village and wandered into Lower Road where they were hit by a silver Volkswagen Golf.

A police source revealed that while no-one was hurt, the horses were too badly injured and had to be shot at the scene to stop their distress on Wednesday (November 30).

The road was closed from 6.20pm until around 11pm.

Police said no action will be taken against the driver or the owner of the horses.
