TENS of thousands of pounds was raised for charity on Saturday as visitors flocked to the eighth Haddenham Real Ale Festival.

The annual event saw more than 3,000 people pour through the gates of Haddenham Community Junior School to enjoy the warm weather, good beer and pleasant company.

Festival chairman Chris Young said there were around 600 more visitors then the year before.

Haddenham Real Ale Festival became a registered charity in 2010 and has so far raised £95,000 which has been donated to good causes in the surrounding area including Haddenham Cricket Club and Thame Hockey Club.

“Last year we raised around £22,000 and this year we had more people so we expect it will be higher.

“It was a great day, everyone sold out of everything at a good time and I believe the pubs did a roaring trade afterwards.”

The festival was in its eighth year and every year has seen a considerable rise in visitor numbers.

“You walk around talking to people on the day and you realise within each group there are a couple of locals who then invite their friends. Those friends then want to come back every year,” said Chris.

They run two festivals a year, the summer one and the smaller Winterfest in December.
