A NEW café specialising in gluten-free foods has been warmly received by Thame residents.
Cup and Cake Café was opened by Bridie Ward and her partner Shaun Ruffett after they discovered there was a lack of options for people who could only eat foods without gluten in them.
And since opening on Swan Walk it has proved popular with everyone, whatever their culinary needs.
Ms Ward said: “It has been absolutely fantastic.
“I’ve not got a sweet tooth but I love baking and we just thought why not give it a go?
“We have had people saying what a relief it is to have somewhere they can come and eat, and the feedback from everyone else has been incredible.”
Cup and Cake serves a variety of homemade cakes, pastries and other sweet treats, as well as breakfast, light lunches and organic, fair trade coffee and Teapigs tea.
Both Ms Ward and Mr Ruffett have ample experience in the customer service and hospitality areas and hope that can make the café an enjoyable place for people to visit, with the help of the three people they have employed.
Ms Ward said: “The most important thing is to have a smile on your face.
“You need to have full-on customer service without being really pushy.
“I hate it when people force things on you but it’s not good to be ignored. It’s about finding a balance.”
Ms Ward has dealt with most of the baking and front of house work since opening last Monday, while Mr Ruffett does the publicity.
Ms Ward said: “We are a great team.”
