Rumsey’s Chocolates swept all before them as it won five prizes at the Gold Star Great Taste awards.

The popular chocolatiers in Thame and Wendover won a much coveted two gold star award for its chocolate coated macademia. It is described as sublime cluster of roasted macadamia nuts in sumptuous milk chocolate.

Hazelnut rock, praline cocoa, Mexican vanilla and simply plain organic chocolates also took home single gold star awards.

Master chocolatier Nigel Rumsey could not hide his delight at the results.

Mr Rumsey said: “Can you believe it? This is fantastic news and such a great endorsement of everything I have tried to achieve here. We are over the moon.”

It was a significant achievement for the company after 8,807 different food and drink products were entered into the competition.

It was the 19th year of the awards and the chocolatiers faced a tense wait for the results during the 45 day competition.

Nigel Rumsey started the business 11 years ago out of a catering unit at the back of his house.

However, the company has grown quickly with the shop in Thame opening in 2007, three years after the first store in Wendover, Bucks.

Run by Nigel and his wife Mary, the couple were inspired to set up the shop after seeing the film ‘Chocolat’.

Their aim was to create a shop to enjoy lunch, coffee and a fine selection of differing chocolates.
