Explosive fireworks fun over weekend

Families and friends in the Vale will be gathering over the weekend to mark Guy Fawkes night.

Traditionally celebrated on November 5, which falls this year on Tuesday, most people will be celebrating early.

Private gardens will be filled with crackling log fires, sparklers, lanterns, witches’ broomsticks, apple bobbing and doughnut munching.

But if you prefer someone else to do the hard work and preparation involved in providing such entertainment, there are plenty of villages, clubs and pubs putting on organised events.

And of course the biggest one of all is the annual firework spectacular hosted by Aylesbury Rugby Football Club and Mix 96 at the club ground in Weston Turville.

The event has become a regular and popular occasion on the local calendar with families, and this year it is held on Saturday (November 2).

In addition to a fabulous display of fireworks, there will be a crackling bonfire, live music, fairground rides and lots of food and drink.

The fun starts this year at 4.30pm when the gates open. The bonfire will be lit at 6.15pm and the exciting, colourful and awe inspiring firework display will start at 8pm.

Mix 96 presenters Katy Butler and Nathan Cooper will host the evening, and introduce music from local band The Zefrones.

The Mix 96 street stars will add to the fun as they wander around armed with goodies.

A fun fair, fairground rides, bar and food stalls will be available for your entertainment and enjoyment.

Tickets for the event are £6 on the night, or £5 in advance from Aylesbury Tourist Board, Wendover Tourist Board, Jakeman Sports in Aylesbury or Weston Stores in Weston Turville.

Under three’s get in free.

For those who don’t wish to drive, or don’t live close enough to walk, there is a free bus service being run courtesy of Mix 96 and Arriva.

Buses will leave from Exchange Street, Aylesbury outside the cinema, heading for the rugby club at 5pm, 5.45pm, 6.30pm and 7.15pm.

Return buses to Aylesbury will depart from the rugby ground in Weston Turville at 8.30pm, 9.15pm and 10pm.

Do check the weather forecast before setting off and remember to dress appropriately with lots of layers of warm clothing as the nights soon get very chilly when the daylight fades.
