Four men have been arrested on suspicion of hare coursing in the Vale countryside.

They were apprehended near to the Ridgeway National Trail in Chilton on November 9, after a report from a member of the public, police said today.

A 46-year-old man from Ashford and three men from Feltham aged 39, 28 and 25 were arrested on suspicion of daytime trespassing in pursuit of game.

They have been bailed to appear at Abingdon police station on December 11, pending further enquiries.

Coursing involves the pursuit of hares with greyhounds and has been illegal in the UK since 2005 – in other parts of the world it is still a competitive sport.

Any members of the public who have any information about illegal hunting or hare coursing or see any suspicious activity in their area should contact police on 101.
