David Lidington says it is ‘unacceptable’ predictions on noise created by HS2 also include background sounds.

The Aylesbury MP says he and many others believed noise maps in HS2 Ltd’s draft environmental statement only showed noise created by HS2.

However, HS2 Ltd chief Alison Munro wrote to the Europe minister saying the maps do take into account ambient noise.

Responding, Mr Lidington said: “I was repeatedly told by both HS2 Ltd employees and contracted noise experts that the maps did not take into account ambient baseline noise levels.

“I am concerned to now learn that this may not be the case as I, like many others, based their consultation response on the basis that the noise maps only showed the noise created by HS2.

“It would be unacceptable if it now turned out to be the case that the draft environmental statement consultation has been run based on incorrect information.”
