THAME Cattle Market’s switch to the Showground moved one step closer this week after planning permission was recommended for approval by the town council.

It would see the whole market with associated buildings, parking, access and ancillary activities move across the town.

But three concerns were picked out by the council about the plan including access to the site as there was no consideration for pedestrians or cyclists.

Drainage was also picked out as a possible problem, as was the insufficient amount of parking at the Showground.

The future of the current cattle market site is now up for discussion, with Sainsbury’s announcing a plan to build a new store there. But this proposal has met with criticism from Thame Cattle Market Action Group opposing the plans.

But some, like businessman Bob Williams, have backed the idea.
