A company specialising in at-home care for the elderly is set to create 50 new jobs in the Aylesbury Vale and North Oxfordshire area in the next 12 months.

Based in Long Crendon, Home Instead Senior Care has been opened by Lee Harrington, who after being made redundant chose to set up a business in the care sector because of concern for his elderly father, aged 85, and uncle who is 93.

Although neither of them currently require looking after he knows that that they may do so in the future and says that he wants to ensure that they and people like them receive the best possible care.

Originally from St Albans, Mr Harrington, 47, moved to Aylesbury five years ago with his wife and three children, aged six, five and three, for a ‘more relaxed way of life’.

His previous career was in retail, working for companies such as Safeway, PC World and BP.

It was his franchise consultant role at BP that gave him a valuable insight into running your own business.

He said: “I already had a good knowledge of the franchise sector, so when I was made redundant, it was my now or never moment – I had the business expertise and care was something I was passionate about.

“I also felt it was important to set-up a business which would enable me to give something back and make a difference to people’s lives.

“Home Instead’s ethos of helping people to celebrate growing older, and assisting them to maintain their independence, was extremely important to me.

“I am excited about providing quality care and companionship to older people in my area.

“As well as having the opportunity to make a positive impact in my community and on my kids, who I hope will grow up with the same passion to make a real difference.”

Mr Harrington is keen to talk to what he describes as ‘kind, compassionate and like-minded individuals’ with a variety of different interests and experiences. People who might not have considered a career in care but have a few hours a week to spare will receive all the necessary training.
