A prison officer has been attacked by a member of the public outside a Grendon Underwood prison.

Police believe an ‘unknown bladed weapon’ may have been used during the assault, which took place in the grounds of HMP Grendon and HMP Spring Hill at about 8.30am on Sunday.

The unknown man was approached by a prison officer, who was trying to find out what he was doing on the site.

He then punched the prison officer and further assaulted him before fleeing the scene.

The officer was treated for minor wounds and released from hospital the same day.

The suspect is white, about 6ft 2ins, of medium to large build, with mousey or grey short hair.

He was wearing light grey jogging bottoms and a light grey top.
