Aylesbury fails in Mary Portas bid

AYLESBURY has failed in its bid to become a 'Portas Pilot' town.

TV retail guru Mary ‘Queen of Shops’ Portas ran a nationwide competition alongside local government minister Grant Shapps, giving 12 winning towns a share of £1million to go towards improving its town centre.

More than 270 towns, including Aylesbury, bid for a slice of the money in April.

Among the towns chosen are Margate in Kent, Stockport in Manchester and Liskeard in Cornwall.
