Amateur choir with high profile ready for Thame gig

A festival choir more than four decades old will unleash its best songs on Saturday with the aid of renowned conductor, John Gibbons.
Lord Williams’s Festival Chorus was originally set up in the 70s and has grown to such an extent it now has more than 100 members and is Thame’s biggest community choir.
The group have gained a reputation for their high calibre performances and are accustomed to sharing the stage with known faces.
Choir chair Claire Humphries said: ‘We benefit considerably from the profile of our conductor, John Gibbons, and our relationship with the superb Ealing Symphony Orchestra.
“We often find surprise stella performers on stage with us, like Nicola Benedetti and winners of the BBC Young Musician of the Year.
“The famous tenor, Adrian Thompson is so supportive as our president, and Howard Goodall is our patron.
“So few amateur choirs have the chance to put on such high-profile concerts with such prestigious soloists.”
But even when the choir isn’t on stage they enjoy their rehearsals.
“Of course during rehearsals, it’s all just fun, and singing the most wonderful music together,” the enthusiastic chair added.
“Many members say to me that Monday night is the highlight of their week.”
The choir will perform two pieces and tickets for the event at the Thame Leisure Centre are £13 and available from Cargo in Thame.
