Passers-by were presented with pies this week as Thame businesses joined forces to celebrate British Pie Week.
Thame's newest watering-hole, The James Figg, and Brother Tom pies combined efforts to provide food to the community during this national week, which runs until Sunday.

If you were walking along Thame's high street you may have been met with a savoury offering courtesy of the staff of The James Figg who were tempting passers by into the pub for a pie and a pint.

Seeing the celebration of the much-loved British meal as a fitting opportunity to feature it on their menu, the James Figg stocked up on Thame's award-winning Brother Tom's pies, created using meat from Newitt's butchers.

Brother Tom pies, which can be found in the food market at Fortnum and Masons in London, created a new selection of fine hand-made savoury pies for The James Figg to put onto its blackboards. The special range bears the pub's name imprinted on the pastry especially for the week.

Frazer Sutherland, from The James Figg, said: "We thought it was only right and proper that we should get involved with British Pie Week and get stuck in, in a big way, you just can't beat the classic combination of a great pie and a great pint.

"There has been a different pie each day including steak & peppercorn on Monday, a twist with pork, Calvados
and fennel on Tuesday, and chicken, cranberry & brie on Wednesday.

"Today pie lovers are able to order a traditional steak and porter pie made with local award-winning black beauty porter from the Vale Brewery, with a hearty steak & mature cheddar pie to round the week off tomorrow."

Director of Brother Tom's Nick Soper added: "Every pie we make is lovingly hand-made using the best meat from our great local butcher Newitts and our pastry is created by champion Kiwi baker Graham Heaven, six times New Zealand Baker of the Year and multiple winner of the much coveted National Supreme Pie Champion Award.

"We're passionate about pies and hope as many people as possible will come on down."

To get a slice of the action with only today and tomorrow left to National Pie Week, tasters are on offer between 11-12 noon and 4-5pm outside the James Figg on Cornmarket.
