A THAME town councillor has become the first woman to give birth whilst in office for at least forty years.
Nichola Dixon, 35, gave birth to daughter Amelia Scarlett after three hours of labour at Wallingford Hospital on Easter Sunday.
Amelia weighed in at a whopping 9lb 13oz.
She joins two older sisters aged ten and seven in the Dixon family home in Kings Close.
Cllr Dixon, who is married to Simon, 33, was elected to the town council in the local elections last year.
The proud mum says whilst she will be having the next couple of months off, she is determined to carry on as a councillor- even if that means taking Amelia with her to council meetings!
She said: "The whole reason I became a town councillor was because I have young children and wanted to do something for young families, for example promoting the breast-feeding cafe.
"Having her in fact gives me more focus."
Thame Town Mayor David Bretherton said: "I am absolutely delighted for Nichola.
"It is a good to have a young councillor around, she's been a breath of fresh air at the council and I look forward to see her back debating in the chamber."
Cllr Dixon is the first serving Thame town councillor to give birth since at least 1968, when former mayor Cynthia Haynes gave birth to a son.
However, it is not known for sure whether she was a member of the town council at this point.
