PENSIONERS in Thame celebrated 21 years at their drop-in centre recently.
The elderly have been socialising with a cuppa at the masonic hall in Thame ever since the then mayor, David Dodds opened it. A £200 donation from the town council and the free use of the hall allowed by the Freemasons enabled the centre to begin.

It offered retired people somewhere to wait for a bus, rest during shopping, shelter from rain and have a chat.

Dorrian 'Dodge' Hathaway whose brother-in-law, Peter Playford, founded the group has been involved with it for the last 10 years. Although the number of volunteers has halved since it opened he says that they are a great team, and were very helpful during the celebration. Dodge added: "The centre is still as strong now as it was when it opened."

The opening days and hours are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 12pm.
