THAME'S Christmas lights will be more colourful and have 'wow factor' this year.
Several companies battled it out to win the contract to display the town's festive lights and Lamps and Tubes Illuminations were chosen. Adam Barnes, from the council said: "They were chosen because of the colours and wow-factor, which bring them more up-to-date. They do the lights for Wycombe District Council and are based in Chesham. What we are hoping for is a much more interesting, exciting Christmas lights display to increase the footfall into the town. The town hall and the tree will be the centrepiece of the town."

He added that in the narrower streets in the centre, such as Buttermarket, there will be displays spanning the walkways.
The lights will be more energy efficient than in previous years and the council will be spending more on the displays. Mr Barnes said: "The use of LED lights is about a fifth of the electricity compared with the average bulb and because they are so small you have got more space to put more lights. If we drive up efficiency, we drive down cost and the spending will be double over the next five years. It's £94,000 over five years, which includes £10,000 a year in infrastructure and improvement."

They are applying to the Market Towns Initiative for funding the infrastructure.
