Plans to turn the Oxfordshire County and Thame Show into a two-day event have been thwarted by the recession.
The gathering, which has been running since 1855, has made a loss for the last three years.

It was felt that changing to a two-day event held over the weekend would help to get more families through the gates.
Plans for a two-day event

have now been shelved for 2010, but the show will be held on a Saturday to try to increase visitor numbers.

In a letter, Chairman of the Thame and Oxfordshire County Agricultural Association, Martin Hector, said: "Unfortunately a further loss was made this year, not as bad as previously, but the committee has decided that, in the light of the association's current financial circumstances, the additional risk of running a two-day show cannot be justified."

He added: "Personally I find this very disappointing, but I am hopeful the move will prove to be a stepping stone to a two-day show in future."
