(Tuesday, September 28) A CONSTABLE at Thame Police Station has raised £4,000 for the Haemotology Day Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
Andy Clarke, whose wife Sylvia has had lymphoma cancer for the last five years, decided to arrange a charity concert at St Mary's Church in Thame with colleague Paul Gregory to raise money for the unit where Sylvia has been receiving treatment.
The concert also had a special celebrity guest in the form of rock superstar Robin Gibb, who presented a cheque for £4,000 to Doctor Tim Littlewood during the evening.
Pc Clarke said he had only expected to raise £2,000 on the night and said he was delighted to have raised double the amount.
He explained: "Happily Sylvia is now in remission and we just wanted to give something back. She has received excellent treatment there, including a bone marrow transplant last year, and we have a lot to be thankful for. The evening could not have gone any better really."
