THAME'S eccentric Member of Parliament, Boris Johnson, will be giving a humorous talk on his life at Tetsworth Memorial Hall next week.
The evening, on Friday April 4, is being held to raise money to bring #100,000 disabled facilities to the hall.

Caroline Cann, chairman of the fundraising committee, said: "Our hall was built in the 50s as a war memorial and is in desperate need of refurbishment and extending to include disabled facilities.

"They are neccessary to comply with disability laws and for the needs of the modern life. Boris has been very supportive."

Mr Johnson, who is currently bidding to become Mayor of London in May, will give a speech on his daily routine, and then answer questions from the audience.

"He should be really entertaining and amusing," said Miss Cann.

"He is getting more and more popular and is probably one of the better known people in his party."

As well as appearing on the night, Mr Johnson has also donated signed items such as books for a charity raffle.

Miss Cann said between £60-£70,000 has already been raised towards the appeal, made up mostly through grants.

On the evening a 'sponsor a brick' scheme will also be launched, and it is hoped that a total of around #1000 will be raised.

In the battle to become London Mayor, Mr Johnson has said this week that he would scrap the mayor's official newsletter to fund a major tree planting scheme on the streets of the capital.

The Conservative candidate pledged to plant 10,000 trees across 40 areas by the end of his first term.

Tickets for the evening, which begins at 7pm, cost £5 (£3 concessions). They are available from Tetsworth Post Office or by phoning 01844 281645.

Are you rooting for Boris in the London Mayoral elections- or would you rather he keep on as Thame's MP?
