Writing duo reunited for panto
Carla Quelch and Mark Oldknow have reunited to write and produce an annual town pantomime 10 years after their first attempt.
Sleeping Beauty will be performed by The Young Theatre in Beaconsfield next week – a group created to give youngsters the chance to develop their acting and production skills.
Director Carla joked: “It’s great to be asked to come and work with the youth theatre on the panto.
“One slight downside is working with Mark, but a small price to pay for bringing pleasure to the younger members of our audience!”
The pair’s script of Sleeping Beauty was first performed in 1998 under the auspices of Tight Fit Theatre.
Carla said they have updated it for 2012, noting: “We felt that references to Bill Clinton and Michael Howard might not be as funny as they were 14 years ago.”
Theatre president Mark joked: “You could say that about the rest of the script.”
Sleeping Beauty follows the adventures of Nanna Trot and her son Simple Simon as they battle Poison Ivy, in her attempt to destroy the beautiful princess Aurora.
Carla said: “It cracks along with slapstick, splat and our now legendary rock throwing finale – health and safety waivers will be provided.”
The musical director of last year’s show, Leo Munby, returns with his live band.
He said: “We’re working really hard this year to provide excellent value for money as we are very aware that ‘times is hard’.
“We have held most of our prices at last year’s levels, because we are keen that our show remains one of the cheapest panto’s in the area over the Christmas holiday.”
It is at the Curzon Centre on December 23, 24 and 26.
