No future for a Bucks band who looked set for the big time
Despite reaching number one in the download charts, appearing on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge and being noticed by a major record label the Futures have decided to throw in the towel.
The indie-rock four-piece, whose members started out by playing Wendover Memorial Hall, have issued a statement saying: “It has been a very rocky road that has led us to where we are today and ultimately the decision we are making’.
“There comes a time for everyone when truths have to be faced and new routes need to be taken to stay happy, and that’s the main reason we’ve taken our time in making this decision.
“We feel like we have taken Futures as far as we can take it as a band and are very proud of how far that was.”
Members of the group still live in Wendover and Princes Risborough.
In July the former Henry Floyd Grammar and John Colet pupils performed songs from their debut album when they headline shows in London and Oxford.
Their record, The Karma Album, shot to the top of the iTunes rock charts when it was released in May under their own label called Vertigo.
The band’s name, Futures, refers to the way they formed – members of different bands coming together and wanting to move forward.
Last year the group released an EP with Mercury Records in collaboration with Rock Sound Magazine.
The statement continued: “There are no words strong enough to say thank you to all the incredible fans that we’ve made and met along the way.
“Your belief and support has kept our band alive and taken us to places which looking back on, wouldn’t have been possible without the thousands of you that come and watch us on tour and buy our music.”
> Futures will play a farewell show on December 12 at London’s Garage before officially splitting to pursue solo music projects.
