New social group for men who like sheds!

It is a stereotypical male domain, where men can while away hours of their lives.
But now a new social group is being formed, called Men In Sheds, which aims to help gentlemen make friends and learn new skills.
The club will be open to men of any age, who will be known as Shedders, but most of the members are expected to be retired.
Project co-ordinator Samantha Hardy said: “The idea originally came from Australia, where they set up the first Men In Sheds project which was aimed at reducing social isolation in men.”
“There are a lot of groups just for women, but not as many for men. They have the opportunity to decide what activities they would like to do in their group.
“Activities could include woodworking, metal working or model making.
“It is really any sort of hobby that they have at home and can transport.”
Each session will be guided by a mentor, who will help the Shedders develop new skills.
“It is their project, we are there to support them,” said Samantha. “It’s an opportunity for them to be social and share company whilst being productive.”
The first UK clubs were established in Ireland and have since spread.
The closest club to the Vale is in Milton Keynes and members of the MK club will be on hand at the first meeting of the Aylesbury club which takes place on Friday, 11am-1pm at Aylesbury’s Queens Park Arts Centre.
The club is the result of a partnership project between Bucks County Council Aylesbury Vale District Council, the Vale Of Aylesbury Housing Trust and Community Impact Bucks. For details call 01844 348831.
