A NEW art studio was opened by TV star Fiona Bruce in Towersey last week.

The Antiques Roadshow presenter, who lives in nearby Sydenham, was on hand to cut the ribbon to launch The Phoenix Art Studio’s brand new facility.

More than 200 people gathered to hear Fiona speak about the importance of art in our modern life.

In her speech she said that there was creativity in everyone, and that we need to have the confidence and opportunity to let it out.

This is something that Karin Ort, The Phoenix Studio’s founder totally agrees with.

She said: “Many of the people who come to us had never done anything creative before but are frequently surprised when they produce a piece of art work to be proud of.

“We like to think of this place as an oasis of calm, where people can come to explore their creativity, have a good laugh with some lovely like-minded people and forget the troubles of the world.”
