THIS WEEK. Visitors and/or prospective members will be welcome at any of the meetings publicised below.
Today. The Red Cross Day Centre has its summer bazaar at the village hall (10-11.30am), with jumble, crafts, cake stall and refreshments. The Darby and Joan Club has a quiz and election of members' reps (2pm at the Youth and Community Centre, Woodwa
ys). There's a charity quiz night at the Rose and Thistle (8pm) in aid of the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust.

Thursday Club. Juliet Rinkel will be talking about My Time in Saudi Arabia at the club's monthly Carry on Learning session tomorrow (1.30pm) in the Village Hall lounge.

WI. At Haddenham WI's monthly meeting tomorrow (2pm) at the Methodist Chapel Mr C Oakes will give a talk entitled Pepys, Plague and Fire.
Bingo. Haddenham Age Concern is having another of its fundraising bingo evenings for all ages at the Youth and Community Centre, Woodways, tomorrow. Doors open at 7pm, eyes down at 7.30pm.

Trees in Art. If you would like to meet villager and artist Joan Skelton-Smith and fellow artist June Kingsbury, you would be welcome at a meet-the-artist evening tomorrow (7.30-9pm) for their exhibition Perspectives - Special Trees of the Chilterns which has now moved from the Chiltern Open Air Museum to the Natural History Museum at Tring. Book Sale. Hundreds of second-hand books will be on sale and coffee and home-baked cakes will be served in the garden at 14 Church End on Saturday (10am-2pm) in aid of Multiple Sclerosis and local charities.
Sponsored Ride/Walk. The annual Buckinghamshire Historic Churches Trust's sponsored bike/ horse ride and walk takes place on Saturday (10am-6pm). Contact Richard Matthews, 62A Churchway, if you would like to take part.

If you visit St Nicholas Church, Kingsey, you will find congregation members busy carrying out maintenance work inside and outside the church on the church's annual work-party day.

Barn Dance. Tickets (£6 adults, £3 children, £15 family) are on sale at Blooming Fruity for a family barn dance (with music by Hadda's Band) being held in the Manor Farm tithe barn on Saturday (6.30-10pm). A barbecue will be available but please bring your own drinks, glasses and nibbles. Tickets are also available by calling 291241, 290869 or 299169.

Horse Show. Since the Haddenham Fun Horse Show began in 2004, it has grown and become ever more popular; so, thanks to Geoff Lacey, the show has now been moved from Roger's Barn to Church Farm, Aston Rd, where there is room for a fifth ring (for clear round jumping and handy pony) in addition to two show rings and two jumping rings. The fourth annual show will take place on Sunday from 9am and competitors can enter on the day (pay at the gate) or in advance by calling Chris on 292127 or Jackie on 290823. A barbecue and refreshments will be available and there will be a raffle. Entry for spectators is free. This year's proceeds will go to the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust and a representative will be at the show.

Football Funday. If football is more your thing, Haddenham Youth Football Club will be holding its annual fun day on Sunday at the Playing Fields, Woodways, with football fun for all, bouncy castle, barbecue, bar, ice-creams and teas.

Heart and Sole Walk. Sunday's country walk - about four miles on field footpaths - starts from outside the library at 2pm.

Cream Teas. Thirsty and hungry walkers (and visitors to Haddenham Museum - open 2-4.30pm) may like to call in at St Mary's Centre, Church End, where cream teas (£3.50, children under 5 - £2) will be served on Sunday (3-5pm) in aid of the Utugi Street Children Kenya Project.
St Mary's Fellowship. At Monday's meeting (2.30-4pm) at St Mary's Centre, there will be a speaker from Smile International, which the group supports with knitting and with the Christmas shoe box appeal. Transport can be provided for those who would otherwise be unable to get to Church End; call Alma on 291629.

Medical Centre. Haddenham Medical Centre will be closed for the afternoon on Tuesday (from 12.30pm) for this month's 'Protected Time for Learning' session. Emergency cover is provided during this time.
Menopause Talk. If you are intending to go to the new Haddenham Health Supporters Group talk by menopause specialist Jan Brockie next Wednesday (7.30pm), please return the slip delivered to Haddenham residents with the July issue of Haddenham Health News or email dawn.anstead@nhs.net now. The official deadline for replies was last Friday.

Veterans' Coffee. Please call the parish office on 292411 if you need a lift for next Thursday's Veterans' Coffee Morning.

BADMINTON. Following the summer break, Haddenham Badminton Club resumes play on Friday (7.30pm) at Haddenham Community Junior School. Andrew Wild writes: "We have a few vacancies, so do come along and join us. Please phone 01296 748679 if you have any questions."
