AYLESBURY-born rower Andy Triggs Hodge and his crew have won gold in a thrilling coxless fours final this morning (Saturday).
Team GB came from behind in a dramatic race to snatch gold from Australia by just over a second, in a time of 6mins and 6.57secs.
Speaking after the race, an elated Hodge said: "It was a tough race, I don't know where the last 250 (metres) came from.
"I always thought we had another gear but I never thought we could do that."
Asked what he felt when he crossed the finishing line, he replied: "Ouch.
"I was in so much pain, I have never been in that much pain in my life.
"It was everything, absolutely everything."
Rowing legend Sir Steve Redgrave hailed the team's achievement. And he joked: "I did expect them to win a bit more than they did so they were playing to the crowd a bit."
