Stone shooter Glen Presley's preparations for the World Helice Championships later this month have been something of a family affair.
The 26 year old shotgun specialist has maintained his British number one ranking in the discipline and is gunning for a medal at the year's most important event, being held in Portugal from June 11-14.

But at the final selection shoot in Kent to decide which three men would make up the GB team, it was Presley's father, Gwyn, also from Stone, who shone brightest, coming top whilst his son could only manage third.

Days later on May 23 father and son were neck and neck at the top of the leaderboard at the Bucks County Championship. Both dropped only one target each but Glen triumphed in an exciting sudden death shoot-off.

Although Welshman Gwyn failed to make into Team GB this time around, Glen is optimistic about his future in the sport. "This year was the first time he was competing in this discipline and hopefully next year it would be nice for us both to be in the team."

Glen is entering the World Champs for the third time, and he says confidence in Team GB is high after they secured a bronze medal at the Euros.

"We have a really experienced team who have been in form so hopefully we can pull off a shock like we did at the Europeans," he said. In the individual event he is hoping to make the shoot-offs for a medal place.

"But it is going to be tough- long days and hot," the former St Louis, Floyd and Waddesdon pupil added.

Helice is one of the most challenging shotgun sports in the world. Targets simulate the erratic and unpredictable flight of a live bird, and the shooter has two shots to blow-up the white centre of the target, which must land within a fenced ring.
