A racing driver who is lucky to be alive following a horrific crash has stunned the touring car world by making a miraculous comeback.
Fairford Leys-based star Andy Neate broke his spine and was left in a coma following a brutal collision at Silverstone 18 months ago.

While doctors feared he might not survive the ordeal, Neate was determined to prove the doubters wrong, and this week he was unveiled as part of the WSR team that will compete in this year's British Touring Car Championship.

He said: "It's fantastic to be back.

"I had some really bad injuries, and quite frankly I'm lucky to be here.

"If you survive an accident like that, you'll most likely have total paralysis, so I was really lucky.

"I broke a vertebrae in my neck, which is the same injury as Christopher Reeve had, but fortunately the spinal cord didn't move away from the vertebrae and sever it."

For the full amazing story see this week's Bucks Herald, out now.
